A couple of years ago artificial intelligence seemed like science fiction, thinking that machines could have the same capabilities as human beings was seen as a very distant process.

Artificial intelligence as the digital technology of the future
Descripción

However, due to the technological breakthrough and the consequences of the pandemic, companies have begun to implement solutions that incorporate artificial intelligence to improve their performance and productivity sooner than expected.

To put it simply, artificial intelligence is the ability of a machine or system to mimic human intelligence, and just like human intelligence, it can learn, reason, understand and improve according to the information it gathers.

One of the great benefits of this technology is that it can solve problems and perform tasks autonomously without the need for human participation.

The implementation of artificial intelligence in companies, as shown in the Sizing the prize report by PWC, could increase global GDP by up to 14% more by 2030, which is equivalent to an additional $15.7 trillion, making artificial intelligence the biggest business opportunity today. This data reinforces the importance of adopting artificial intelligence in businesses, which will mean new opportunities to evolve and grow.

Here are some of the areas in which artificial intelligence-based solutions are being implemented

  1. Online shopping and advertising.

Artificial intelligence has become very important for online commerce. This technology offers users personalized recommendations based on their browsing, searches and even purchases. In addition, now with task automation they can more efficiently perform different processes such as: organizing inventory, optimizing products, or logistical advances.

  1. Recommendation engines.

The information we receive on the web is increasingly personalized. Artificial intelligence through search engines learns from all the data it receives and recommends to the user the information that may be of most interest.

  1. Customer service.

The chatbot is an AI program that online stores are implementing, since sometimes they can perform the same tasks as human agents, such as answering messages, giving advice, suggesting sizes, and solving the different doubts that the user may have. This program adapts according to the place where you have to talk to the customer, either through social networks or on the web.

  1. Cybersecurity.

While digitalisation has become increasingly important, cyberattacks have also increased. Artificial intelligence with the data it constantly obtains can learn to recognize and defend itself against external attacks.

  1. Disinformation.

Currently we live surrounded by information, many of these news we receive can be false creating a problem of disinformation that can affect users. To control this type of fake news, there are already some artificial intelligence applications that can search and detect fake news and check if the sources of the news are authorized.

  1. Personal digital assistants.

Right now, anyone with a smartphone has a virtual assistant (Siri, Alexa, Cortana or Google Assistant) at their disposal. This type of assistant helps the user to answer their questions, give recommendations and even organize their agenda through the voice recognition built into their system.

As we have just seen, artificial intelligence is helping businesses in many ways, streamlining their processes or even performing tasks that previously had to be done by a person.

Nowadays, artificial intelligence represents a great challenge for companies in terms of change and adaptation. The incorporation of new technologies has changed the way we do business, which presents a great opportunity for companies to improve their performance and productivity. The pandemic has shown that we can work and manage business differently. The fact of being able to work from home, or the high growth of online sales has meant a before and after in our lives, where the implementation of artificial intelligence is, and will continue to be essential for the progress and growth of the economy.
