Executive summary

The situation resulting from the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has meant that many companies have had to opt for telework model in order to be able to continue offering their goods or services.

According to the latest Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) Labour Force Survey, "In the first quarter of 2021, 11.2% of employed people (2,146,100) worked from home more than half of the days". In this sense, it is logical to think that in the “new normal” environment, this option will continue to be a driving force for economic activity.

For company employees to be able to carry out their tasks properly, they need a digital workplace. In this sense, in the first section of the report, we tell you what the new digital workplace (Liquid Workplace) is, or how technology can make it possible for work to be conceived as a flexible activity that is not necessarily linked to a specific physical space.

The Liquid Workplace must be approached from 3 fundamental axes such as tools, work environments and people, as organisations must be able to design the digital workplace that best suits the needs of each employee depending on the type of work they carry out on a daily basis.

Additionally, in the same section, we summarise the principal needs or minimum requirements that derive from the implementation of the digital workplace, such as connectivity, equipment, or security.

The second section of the report analyses the main tools available on the market, both free and paid ones, which will facilitate the implementation of the digital workplace and help employees to carry out their work anywhere.

In this sense, tools such as the well-known Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, will facilitate this transformation in the work model with features such as working documents in the cloud, to make video conference calls or manage team tasks online, however, it is not necessary to make an investment in a tool. SMEs can opt for others that, although potentially do not have all the capabilities that have the ones you pay for, can provide a quality service to users, such as Slack or Asana.

In the third section of the report, with the aim of exposing and making visible the different capabilities offered by the tools and how they can be used to carry out the daily tasks of a company in a completely remote way, a case of use of these tools is presented. In this sense, we will see how Juan, owner of a made-to-measure shirt company, manages the day-to-day work of his team and his clients with 100% digital tools that facilitate his work wherever he wants to carry it out.

There are many possibilities that open up with digital workplaces and it is time to adopt them and promote a trend that can be very positive for your company.
